Esalen Massage, developed at the Esalen Institute, is known for its long, flowing strokes, slow rhythmic movements, and whole-body focus. In this course you will learn the “Esalen long stroke,” as well as other techniques that make up the foundation of Esalen massage.
Esalen massage is an evolving bodywork practice that has grown from the awareness practices at the Esalen Institute, as well as techniques and principles from bodywork masters like Ida Rolf, Milton Trager and Moshe Feldenkrais. Esalen massage combines artistry with science and invites the practitioner to customize each massage to meet their client’s individual needs, while co-creating an experience of breath, awareness, and presence for each other.
The class will consist of exercises, demonstrations, and supervised practice. By the end of this course you will have a clear understanding of the basic elements of Esalen massage from which to build on. These techniques can easily be applied and combined with any massage practice, or used alone. This class is appropriate for beginners or experienced massage therapists wanting to expand their repertoire. Please come prepared to give and receive several full body massages.
